Mallard will today appear before the Governance and Administration Select Committee after it was found that\u00a0$300,000 taxpayer money<\/a>\u00a0was used for his legal fees.<\/p>\n

In\u00a0defamation proceedings<\/a>, Mallard wrongly claimed an accused rapist was working on Parliament’s premises.<\/p>\n

Collins told that today there were “plenty of things we’d like to hear, number one an apology, also, when he’s going to resign, take responsibility for his action”.<\/p>\n

“And it’s not simply the fact that it’s cost a tremendous amount of money but actually, it’s cost a former staff member of Parliamentary Service their job and their reputation.”<\/p>\n

She said Mallard’s actions along with not apologising earlier were “deplorable” for a Speaker – “who sets the standard of behaviour for MPs in Parliament”.<\/p>\n

He has now apologised and the Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has acknowledged his “mistake”.<\/p>\n
