{"id":660,"date":"2020-12-16T02:25:33","date_gmt":"2020-12-16T02:25:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/thebuzz.apnanetwork.co.nz\/?p=660"},"modified":"2020-12-16T02:25:33","modified_gmt":"2020-12-16T02:25:33","slug":"fireworks-banned-around-christchurch-after-scrub-blazes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thebuzz.apnanetwork.co.nz\/?p=660","title":{"rendered":"Fireworks banned around Christchurch after scrub blazes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Fire and Emergency (Fenz) is banning the use of fireworks in a number of locations around Christchurch.<\/p>\n<p>Area commander Dave Stackhouse announced fireworks would be banned in Akaroa, Bottle Lake and the Port Hills from 6pm today, in a briefing to media.<\/p>\n<p>The ban comes after a significant fire above Hillsborough which burnt through 25 hectares and caused around 40 homes to be evacuated on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>Fire and Emergency confirmed the blaze was caused by fireworks late on Friday night.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Fireworks in this unpredictable environment is just too much of a risk for us to allow,&#8221; Stackhouse says.<\/p>\n<p>On Friday night around 40 homes were evacuated along Port Hills Road and Avoca Valley Road as a blaze threatened homes.<\/p>\n<p><strong>-RNZ<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Fire and Emergency (Fenz) is banning the use of fireworks in a number of locations around Christchurch.
